A damaged tooth can be saved and
repaired to look and feel like the real thing perhaps even better with minor
procedures such as bonding.
In case of a fracture, where little tooth structure is left,
the treatment can be planned after careful assessment of the injury.
Minor fractures such as small chips, are simple to
repair. Cosmetic contouring is best suited for this or a bonding technique may be
used to "fill out" the defect.
Fractures often leave teeth weak and in need of
underpinning. In such cases, pins and posts can be placed in the tooth to provide added
strength to create a core around which a restoration can be built.
Cusp fractures often result when accidentally biting on to
very hard objects or while trying to open a bottle with one's teeth.
Multiple fractures may result due to a fall especially when the teeth are
protruded. This requires the correction of both, the protrusion and the fractures.
